Сattle breeding
The livestock sector comprises 2,700 animals, including 1,030 milking cows. In 2009, their average productivity reached 6,651 kg of milk.
A focused effort to increase productivity is underway on the farm, which includes the following measures:
-
Enhancing genetic potential through the use of bull semen from Canadian and Hungarian breeding programs, aimed at achieving a milk yield of 11,000–15,000 kg per cow.
-
Selecting heifers born to highly productive cows to form the foundation of the breeding herd.
-
Consistently improving the quality and quantity of the annual fodder supply.
To increase the total number of heifers, sex-sorted semen is used for artificial insemination. The farm has been successfully selling heifers for the past three years. The productivity of first-calf heifers in 2009 was 5,909 kg.
The livestock sector employs 97 workers. To attract and retain highly skilled specialists, OAO “Raps” offers competitive salaries. Workers relocating from other towns are provided with company housing.
